An Outline For Cosmetic Dentistry

By Edward Jacobsen

There are many types of cosmetic dentistry available today. Individuals have the option to have a procedure done that will provide them with a more comfortable smile. Or, they may decide to address an issue with their teeth that has been present since childhood and seek the assistance of cosmetic dentistry.

Many of these people choose a smile makeover. A cosmetic dentist is able to repair and manipulate the teeth to provide a person with a brighter smile through the use of many unique methods and procedures. The procedures address issues such as stained teeth, crooked teeth, broken teeth, and other problems that have caused an individual to have low self esteem.

After an initial examination, the dentist will carefully explain exactly what needs to be done, the length of time it will take and the cost. The dentist and patient will then set up a treatment plan that will take care of each issue.

Several different methods are used by a cosmetic dentist to achieve the result desired and each person's case is carefully reviewed before an appropriate treatment is decided on. There are many processes used by a cosmetic dentist to perform a smile makeover.

A smile makeover can include porcelain and ceramic inlays, crowns, implants, porcelain laminate veneers, porcelain jackets, gingival sculpting, and composite bonding. In many cases the dentist will be able to perform most of the work required using modern equipment such as lasers.

When a person is scheduled for teeth whitening their treatment procedures for a smile makeover have been completed. This is the last step that most people take in their makeover. The procedure usually can be accomplished in one appointment to the cosmetic dentist and involves the use of lasers and other materials that remove staining and yellowing from the teeth.

Each treatment procedure can take a different length of time to accomplish. An individual needing extensive treatment may need to go to their dentist on a regular basis for several weeks to attain the results they are seeking. In most cases the dentist will create a treatment plan that takes into account a persons schedule so that there is as little time taken from work or important activities as possible.

The field of cosmetic dentistry is highly specialized. There are many treatments performed in this field of dentistry that are not performed in a regular dentist's office. The equipment used is usually very technologically advanced and requires special training to use. When one is seeking the services of a cosmetic dentist they will want to make sure that the individual has the experience and expertise to provide the services that are required. - 30291
